Used Cooking Oil Alms in Jagakarsa Reaches 30 Tongs

Used cooking oil is then sold and the proceeds are donated to the needy

The Jelantah (used cooking oil) alms program in Jagakarsa Sub-district, South Jakarta, which has been running for a month, has produced encouraging results.

Thus far total used cooking oil from the contribution of residents has been calculated as many as 30 barrels or 990 liters, which is cashed in worth Rp 9.9 million.

South Jakarta to Start Used Cooking Oil Donation Program

Jagakarsa Sub-district Head Mundari said it was conceived after seeing the amount of used cooking oil that people have thrown away freely. His side also cooperates with the Polar Social Home to manage used cooking oil donated by citizens.

"Used cooking oil is then sold and the proceeds are donated to the needy," expressed Jagakarsa Sub-district Head, Mundari, Wednesday (9/25).

In this program, citizens are given a small jerry can to accommodate the used cooking oil from each of the houses. Then the oil is put into a bigger place in the urban village.

His side has mobilized officers of the Waste Bank Team and Environment Taskforce to take used cooking oil from residents' homes.

"We provide it at two points in each urban village. It can be taken once or twice a week," he told.

Pole Social Home Publications and Services Division Head Nanik Apriyani added, along this month, the used cooking oil collected in Jagakarsa is 30 barrels.

"The value of giving alms is the alms value multiplied by 60 percent," he stated.
